CHOICE BASED CREDIT SEMESTER AND GRADING SYSTEM

Mahatma Gandhi University has introduced the ‘Choice based Credit Semester and Grading System for all undergraduate programmes in this accademic year. The key features of this pattern include choice based credit system and a combination of internal and external evaluaton based on grading. The three-year undergraduate programme will be divided into six semesters, each consisting of 90 working days distributed over 18 five-day academic weeks. The semester course include Common course (Course in English & additional languages and general course), Core course (Course on the subject of specialization and methodology), Complementary courses (Courses on subjects which would complement the core course) and Open course (Other courses of interest).

EVALUATION SYSTEM

The evaluation of each course shall contain two parts (i) Internal or In-Semester Assessment (ISA) (ii) External or End-Semester Assessment (ESA) The internal: external examinations ratio shall be 1:3. The Internal and External examinations shall be evaluated using Direct Grading system based on 5-point scale as given below.

The overall grade for a programme for certification shall be based on CGPA with a 7-point scale given below.

1.50 to 1.99

1.00 to 1.49
D

A separate minimum of D Grade for internal and external are required for a pass for a course. For a pass in a programme a separate minimum of Grade D is required for all the courses and must score a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or
an overall grade of C+ and above.

EXAMINATIONS & TEST PAPERS

  1. Exemption from attendance in Examination and Test Paper will be granted only by the Principal.
  2. Application for such exemption must be made in person at least two days before the commencement of the examination.
  3. In case of illness the Principal may insist on the production of a medical certificate or arrange the applicant to be examined by a competent doctor.
    The expenses of such examination will have to be borne by the applicant himself.
  4. Absence from examinations and test papers without leave will render the student to serious punishment which may amount to withholding of Term Certificate.
  5. Defaulters are not exempted from examination and test papers.
  6. When re-examination is given, absence from such re-examination will be considered failure. A suitable fee will be collected from students to whom re-examination is offered.
  7. Malpractice in test papers and examinations will render the student to severe punishment which may amount to refusal of promotion to the next class, or expulsion from the college.
  8. University Exam fee will be collected as per the notice of the principal.
