Project Summary :

A study was conducted among the rural population of Piravom Grama Panchayat to determine the computer literacy and usage from December 2009 to November 2010. This panchayat was chosen as it is one of the rural panchayats with backward economy and education. The objective of the study was to find out the percentage of houses with computers, percentage of houses with computers and internet connection, percentage of people using computers, percentage of people employed in IT and related sectors, percentage of people who have passed any computer course, to analyze the usage pattern based on gender, to analyze the usage pattern based on age and to investigate the factors behind the low usage of computers. Random sampling technique was used in the selection of the sample. The results revealed that majority of the houses are not having computers and people who have access to internet is low. Among the people using internet, most of them falls under the age group 15-30. The various reasons for not using computers were lack of computer education, money and occupational reasons. Even those who have access to computers are not exploring the features of Information Communication Technology to a great extent.

Project Summary :

This research project, sanctioned by UGC, (No. MRP (S)-445/08-09/KLMG066/UGC-SWRO dated 30th March 2009) was carried out to develop a brain-wave machine from a basic electronic machine to a Cybernetic Brain-Wave machine working through Word of God. This research project revealed secrets related with Life, Spirit, Lightning, Eternity etc. and created a platform where God, Science, Nature, Religion etc. meet. A number of research papers on this topic were published in various national and international conferences and research journals including IEEE Xplore and AMR (Advanced Materials Research) Journal. In this research work, we touched various subjects like Cybernetics, Control, Electronics, Noology, Biotechnology, Education, Bio-informatics etc. Ultimately it is found that this brain wave machine is acting as the LOGOS machine generating Word of God and controlling all Technologies and all areas of research and activities. This brain wave machine also could be considered as a ‘Truth Machine’, as we envisioned in the Coat of Arms of India ‘Satyameva Jayathe’. This brain wave machine facilitates the travel of the Universe towards East direction bringing life to the world in the eternity curing all temporary truth about eternal triteness, realizing the real cause and destination of the science Cybernetics which was started in 1948 along with the Declaration of Independence of Israel and Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Culmination of Noosphere in the Omega Point described in Daniel 12:3 in the Bible and prophesied by the Patron Saint of the Internet, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a French Philosopher, Scientist and Paleontologist, also achieved through this research project, reinstating an ending world towards a new sky and earth, rising Cybernetics as the king of all sciences (and arts too!!!). The secrets related with the seven pillars of knowledge described in the Bible in Proverbs 9:1 could also be revealed through this Research Project. A new all pervasive theory known as General Theory of Duality also was introduced through this research project solving controversies and bringing rapture by 2012, rising science as perfect method to know the truth, eliminating the Golem status of Science, connecting the Global Consciousness Project (GCP) of Princeton University, USA (generating Global Consciousness Voice through the heart of the people as described in Ezekiel 1:28), Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Experiment to detect God Particle (Higgs Boson), Switzerland and Bioinformatics to invent what Life is.

Mr. Jacob Abraham

1. “Study and Analysis of Health Risk from Mobile Phone Base Station”, 2011, funded by UGC.

Project Summary :

The specific absorption rate is a measure regarding the amount of electromagnetic energy deposited / absorbed in a living tissues. The specific absorption rate depends up mainly on conductivity of the part of the living organism exposed to microwave radiation. The conductivity of skin is different from that of bone and it is different from eye and it is different from that of muscle. Another factor that affect conductivity is the frequency of the signal to which the body part is exposed. The conductivity varies as the operating frequency varies. The specific absorption rate can be calculated if we know the conductivity and electric field intensity at a particular location. The electric field intensity can be directly measured using a portable hand held three axis radio frequency electromagnetic radiation measurement meter. With the help of adjustable switch the sensing frequency is made same as that of operating frequency transmitted by the antenna in mobile tower. By developing a software programme the specific absorption rate can be computed once electric field intensity is available. In this project the study site is selected where three mobile base station are placed at the rooftop of a building. The towers are operated by three different mobile operators. Each tower contain six to nine sector antennas and two to three dish antenna. The dish antennas are used to communicate with neighbouring towers of the same operators . The electromagnetic signals emitted or transmitted by dish antennas does not make any direct contact with earth surface. But at the same time the signals transmitted by sector antenna will make contact with each surface at a distance of fifty to seventy meters away from the base of the tower. Recently lot of concerns were raised by common public regarding the health effect caused by continuous exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile antenna base station towers. The field intensities drop rapidly with distance away from the base of the antenna, because of the attenuation of power with the square of distance. In this project, four location are selected near the building were three base station towers are placed. The locations are about 175 meter, 200 meter,300 meter and 475 meter away from the tower. With the help of three axis radio frequency field strength meter electric field at various location for all three transmitted frequencies were measured. The measurements were taken at various time intervals. The specific absorption rate is calculated at locations for a single frequency initially and similarly specific absorption rate for other two transmitted frequency is calculated. Finally the overall specific absorption rate at a location is computed by adding three indpendley measured specific absorption rates observed. From the measurements the overall specific absorption rate at all four location for various time intervals where calculated and found that the levels are less than proposed by government authorities. Although the computed and measured values does not make any immediate effect to the health of the human body , continuous exposure may cause body heating which will result in headache and sleep disorder.

‘Development of Data Protection Techniques for Digital Audio and Video Signals using Watermarking’, Minor Research Project funded by University Grants Commission, Government of India, via letter F. No. MRP(S)-351/12-13/KLMG066/UGC-SWRO dated 29 March 2013.

Dr. Benjamin Varghese.P.

1. Mr. Benjamin Varghese P was the Co-investigator of the Minor Research Project titled “Portable ECG Monitor with Computer Interface” (2007) granted and funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, to Mr. Baby Paul.

2. Mr. Benjamin Varghese P was the Principal Investigator of the Minor Research Project titled “Development of a Low Cost Pulse Oximeter” (2005) funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

Project Summary :

Pulse Oximeter monitor continuously and non-invasively the arterial blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate of a patient .Patient monitoring during anesthesia and pre and post operative period, this method is found more accurate and reliable. This instrument determines oxygen saturation by analyzing the time varying, ac-component of the light transmitted through the skin during the systolic face of the blood flow in the tissue. This approach achieves measurement of the arterial oxygen content with only two wavelengths [660 and 940nm]. The component of the transmitted light, which represents light absorption by skin pigments and other tissues, is used to normalize the ac signals. Here an attempt has been made to develop instrument using locally available components so that the cost can be reduced to a greater extent.

Mr. Baby Paul

1. Mr. Baby Paul was the Co-investigator of the Minor Research Project titled “Development of a Low Cost Pulse Oximeter” (2005) granted and funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, to Mr. Benjamin Varghese P.

2. Mr. Baby Paul was the Principal Investigator of the Minor Research Project titled “Portable ECG Monitor with Computer Interface” (2007) funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

Project Summary :

Electrocardiography is an important and useful tool in the management of heart diseases. Interpretation requires practice due to changing norms which are brought about by the physiological changes that occur in the circulatory system. For interpretation of various heart diseases a massive dataset of ECG is required. Even though some data set is available in the internet and other sources, they are not so reliable or may be corrupted. The ordinary ECG machine seen in the hospital does not have a computer interface. The portable ECG machine developed gave a wireless access to a remote computer where the data was further processed in MATLAB. A new setup for the measurement of blood pressure was also setup using the same ECG amplifier with microcontroller. The details of the NIBP monitor and the different measurements taken are discussed.

Mr. Regi Joseph

1. Mr. Regi Joseph is the Principal Investigator of the Minor Research Project “Service And Working Conditions Of Employees Of Unaided Schools In Kerala : A Study”, 2010, funded by UGC.

Project Summary :

It is commonly approved in Kerala that the performance of unaided schools is far better than that of Government schools and Aided schools. The sweat and blood of the teachers in this sector is vital in the production of extra ordinary results. The students taught by them have tremendous achievements over the years. But still the attitude of the managements and the society is that they are in some way or other inferior to their counterparts in the Aided and Government sectors. This attitude of considering them as secondary citizens is actually the denial of their right to live in equal status with other teachers who possesses the same qualification. So it is high time that the Government of Kerala took necessary steps to take appropriate action to prevent this utmost degree of exploitation. The mere passing of an order will never be enough to protect their rights as close monitoring is required to ensure that the instructions in the order are complied. Necessary provisions should be incorporated in the Kerala Educational Rules to protect the rights of unaided sector employees so as to help them live in equal status with others
